Kids today have so many things to deal with and they don't always know
where to turn. Centre County Schools are trying to help. Student
Assistance Programs are set up in schools to help students who may be having behavior problems related to mental health concerns, depression, suicidal thoughts or alcohol and other drug use. If you child needs some help, call the school. Confidentiality is respected throughout the student assistance process.

PERSONALITY: Are you observing mood swings? Does your teenager seem giddy or very depressed? Is your child very irritable or hostile without any reason? Does he/she have an extremely negative or apathetic attitude? Does he/she appear to have no desire or motivation to do things? Does your teenager spend a lot more time alone in his/her room? FRIENDS: Has your child stopped spending time with old friends? Is he/she hanging out with kids you don't know? Is your child reluctant to introduce you to his/her friends? Does your child receive many short phone calls? Have you checked on you child, only to find that he/she is not where you were told he/she would be? Do your child's friends use drugs? SCHOOL: Is your child having more problems than usual at school? Are his/her grades dropping? Has your child stopped participating in extracurricular activities such as sports, clubs, etc.? Is your child skipping school, sleeping in class, arguing with teachers or frequently tardy? Are you having problems getting your child to get up and go to school? | LEGAL: Has he/she been caught breaking into neighbors homes or businesses? Have you begun to miss money from your purse/wallet? Are you missing items from around the house: cameras, stereos, watches, TVs, or anything that could be sold or traded for drugs? Has your child been caught with drugs or with drug paraphernalia? APPEARANCE: Have you observed a change in your child's appearance? Have you noticed red eyes or dilated pupils? Does your child seem unusually hyperactive or noticeably sluggish? Have you noticed the smell of alcohol, chemicals or marijuana around his/her person, room or clothes? Have you discovered any obvious signs of alcohol or drug use such as drugs, bottles, needles or pipes? FAMILY RELATIONSHIPS: Is your child pulling away from the family and refusing to participate in normal family activities and share of chores? Has your child stopped talking to you about his/her feelings and activities or appears to be hiding something from you? Is your child fighting more with other family members? If you try to talk with your child about his/her friends' activities, or if you bring up the subject of drugs or alcohol, does your child become very defensive or evasive? |
