Parent and Student Informational and Orientation Events
There are many opportunities for incoming families to gain information regarding the transition into 9th grade. The following is a general timeline with specific events. As events are updated, flyers will be linked. Events are for incoming families, so the months coordinate to your child's 8th-grade year. Please note, we cannot accommodate individual tour requests, as we have approximately 600 students per year incoming into the high school. We provide several events where tours are given and highly encourage you to attend.
December: Out-of-District Family Event
This event is held in early December for all families (both children and parents) who are registering their child in SCASD as an incoming 9th grader (charter, cyber, homeschool, or private school students). We provide an overview of the registration window, how to register for courses, timeline of scheduling, and provide a tour of the high school. Athletics and club representation are present. Registration is also onsite for this event, and families can register in person at this event.
January: Instructional Showcase
This event is held in mid-January for ALL incoming 9th-grade parents and guardians, both in SCASD and non-SCASD. This is a parent-only event. There is a brief overview of the scheduling process and general knowledge about our 9th-grade community. Then, every Career and Technical Center area, department area, and athletics are present and available to answer questions. Here is the 2026 Instructional Showcase Website. This is updated yearly.
January: Scheduling Visits at MNMS and PFMS
In late January, 9th-grade counselors and the 9th-grade Principal go to PFMS and MNMS to explain scheduling to students. For out-of-district families, they are welcome to attend the presentation at MNMS. In 2026, the MNMS presentation will be held on January 28 at 8:45am. Please sign in at the main entrance to attend (you must bring a driver's license).
*Please note, for incoming 9th graders (2026-2027) we strongly recommend you register and enter course requests by February 13, 2026, to be on target to schedule on the same timeline as the majority of students. Registering in late spring / early summer may impact elective availability.
August: 9th Grade Kick-Off (9KO)
Every year in the week prior to the first day of school, we hold a brief 9th-grade kick-off event. This event is for students only. Students receive a brief informational session from 9th-grade Counselors and 9th-grade Principal, attend a Q&A with student leaders, and have the opportunity to walk their schedules prior to the first day of school.
We are very excited to meet and work with your child as they begin their high school career! Thank you for your time and support as we partner to ensure your child's success.
