Audition Information
When: May 20th, May 22nd, and May 24th
Where: State High Gym (G227)
What Time: 5pm - 8pm
What do you need:
- comfortable clothing (no jeans)
- sneakers or jazz shoes (socks and bare feet are not recommended)
- water bottle (don’t forget this!)
- snacks (you might need an energy boost)
What you should know before auditions:
- basics: balancés, chassé, plié, tondues, degagés
- turns: chaîné, piqué, pencil, arabesque, attitude, fouetté, pirouettes
- leaps: jeté développé, jeté straight leg, switch jeté, center jeté, calypso
- jumps: stag, “ C ”, tour jeté, double attitude
If you are unfamiliar with any of these terms, we suggest you ask your Dance Teacher, YouTube it, or reach out to us.
Audition Schedule: Day 1: no judges; learn choreography and marching basics. Day 2 & 3: review; judges in; execute choreography
Audition Judging: You will be judged on your across the floor technique, standing technique, and your performance in the routine. What we are looking for are dancers with at least a basic knowledge of traditional dance terminology (see list above), an ability to learn routines quickly, and a vibrant performance quality (ie. an engaging face).
Even if you are not confident that you fit all 3 criteria, please audition anyway. It is often times that a dancer's strengths in one area will out-weight any difficulties in another. We want to see if you are open to learning something that you may not be extremely confident in. Are you workable?
