Business - Accounting and Finance
Accounting and Finance students learn the basic principles of the accounting cycle, which includes analyzing transactions, journalizing, preparing closing entries, generating a trial balance, and preparing financial statements. Students will also gain an understanding of stocks, bonds, and other tradable instruments, and the markets in which they are traded. Understanding keys to decision making, whether it be financial, corporate, or personal will be fundamental to the program. Participation in FBLA will further develop skills in communication and business. Other classes within this program are Business Law 1 and Business Law 2(both are Social Studies .5 credits) which teach the ethics behind both the corporation and how it relates to the consumer. Field trips include the Centre County Courthouse to watch a trial and PSU law building for our own Mock Trial. Students also have the option of taking Personal Finance as part of the scope and sequence. This class helps students prepare for a life of successful money management which encompasses budgeting, banking, insurance, investments, buying a car and insurances.
